When it comes to running your business, are you doing too much?
Too much networking.
Too much marketing.
Too much project management.
Too much time tracking.
Too much research.
Too much professional development.
Your time comes into play in every aspect of your business.
The fact is that we all have the same amount of time (168 hours a week!), but it’s how we use that time that makes or breaks our efforts, no matter what we are doing.
One of the mistakes I see Virtual Assistants make all the time is cramming a lot of stuff into a short period of time.
For instance, when we talk about networking, they will say they spend hours a day connecting with people.
When we talk about professional development/taking a course, they talk about working on it 2 hours every night.
When we talk about marketing, they show me how they talk about all of their services to anyone who will listen.
But here’s the fact. In most of these situations, less is never more.
When you cram a whole lot of anything into a short period of time (especially if it’s something you don’t particularly like to do), you end up really wasting your time. Some of your 168 hours that you will never get back.
Instead, you should be strategically trying to break up whatever task you need to do, into smaller bite-sized chunks. And incorporate daily actions into your schedule so you can form habits that are long-lasting and far more effective than trying to do it all in one night.
I like to quote the Baby Steps advice that Dr. Leo Marvin gives Bob in the movie What About Bob?
It’s funny, but it’s soooo effective!
