An interesting thing happened to me recently. Someone was having a look over on one of my websites and clicked on an affiliate link that I have had installed there for some time.
When she clicked it, she noticed that it went to someone else’s old program that I was an affiliate for. She contacted me to let me know – I had totally forgotten about it on my site, not realizing it was connected to a particular program.
Luckily, she contacted me to let me know. Many people might not. Who knows how many people clicked it previously and just went away. I was appreciative of her kindness to contact me about it (and I fixed it right away!)
Because it was an affiliate link that someone could click, obviously I was intending on collecting a commission for anyone who purchased the program, but since it was out of date, I probably missed some sales along the way.
The lesson is that it’s important to periodically check on your website pages to ensure they are up to date. Whether you check for dates or other information like links or even affiliate links, you should try to do a regular check up to ensure that your site visitors will be able to see what they see.
If you have updated a selling price on your site, make sure you update it on all pages.
If you have an affiliate link, be sure that what your site visitors will be directed to is still live and valid.
If you have a call to action on your blog posts, be sure they are current for the people who are just coming to your website and viewing old posts.
Sometimes we tend to get busy and just post our blog or other links to our website, and then we forget about them.
The call to action on blog posts is one thing that many people don’t think about updating, but often our blog posts are the things that bring visitors to our website pages. Make sure they are current or updated regularly so you can take advantage of the new visitors that are finding you.
If you don’t, you could be losing sales (direct or affiliate) by not paying attention to your older content.
I recommend that you do a simple check regularly. Or have someone check for you. Sometimes a second set of eyes is better than yours.
And of course, make sure your affiliate links are current – passive income could be waiting for you!
