The last few weeks we have had a few parties at our house celebrating various events. Celebrating is always so much fun, and it only takes someone to have a party to do it.
So this reminds me that we need to celebrate ourselves in business as well, and I know a lot of people who never do that.
Each week I talk to my coaching clients and we talk about what they are doing, what the plan for the week is, and how they did with their goals.
Sometimes, they are pretty down on themselves when they feel like they are running to catch up, or they didn’t get done what they had planned.
So we talk about the positives – what did go right? what is the positive side of any situation? It’s motivating, yes, but it’s also celebratory, and when we realize that they are still moving forward even if they have had a so-so week, it makes us both happy!
Celebrating your successes is really important, particularly when you are working on your own every day.
It doesn’t matter how big or small the success is, write it down! I suggest getting a success journal and just writing a few things a day.
It’s easy once you get started.
Here are a few things I bet you’ve done well this week or month that maybe you haven’t even realized:
- helping a client solve a problem
- getting your work done during business hours (no late nights!)
- holding yourself or others to a boundary
- achieving your networking goal
- cleaning up your office
- no technical issues!
- documenting some processes or your task list
- reviewing your expenses and adjusting down!
- planning a marketing goal
- took the time to have lunch with a friend
There are all kinds of things that can be small successes in your everyday work week.
Take the time to identify those things on a regular basis and you will find your mood is more positive and you will actually be empowered to get more done!
This week, here is a short list of my successes:
- I am managing a client’s work while she is on holidays
- I completed a large new marketing initiative for a client
- I help a client troubleshoot technical issues for an event
- I helped a client realize her networking strategy was working!
- I finished planning the details of my upcoming group program
- I completed a new program launch setup for a client
- I wrapped up my administrative bits for my charity ball tournament, and filed everything away for next year
- I made a donation to a charity
- I got a facial!
- I paid my bills
- I cleaned out my truck
- I took the weekend off and relaxed (at a cottage and a wedding!)
I could go on … you get the idea!
Look at your own list – write it down. And smile! It’s time to celebrate!
I would love to hear what you are celebrating – I’m going to post my list to my Facebook page. I invite you to share yours there too!
