Who inspires you in your business?
When we work alone all day, every day, sometimes inspiration is something that eludes us. At least on a regular basis.
It’s important for Virtual Assistants to connect with people who inspire to do well, to build, to grow, or to do whatever it is you want to do with your business.
I am on the mailing lists and in the social media groups of many, many people that I look to for inspiration.
Sometimes I need inspiration to know that I am on the right path. Sometimes it’s to help me find my way through a period of growth. And sometimes it’s just to help me keep my mindset in a positive space.
And often times getting that inspiration is the thing that will help me make a solid decision in my business, or take the next step that may have been dragging my feet on.
There are loads of reasons to seek inspiration.
Recently I attended several local events, and I got a good dose of inspiration from a variety of people.
First up, Facebook Boost Your Business.
If you have the opportunity to attend one of these events near you, do it. They are put on by Facebook and they give you really good business statistics and tips to help you make decisions about how to use Facebook and Instagram in your business. And they are free events! Some people were there to network last week (500 people!), but I was just there to glean the knowledge of the Facebook team. And I came away with some great new tips to improve my social media promotion.
Next Up, Startup Canada’s ‘Day on the Hill’
I attended this huge startup entrepreneur event last week and got inspiration in spades.
Victoria Lennox is the co-founder of Startup Canada, which brings together communities of business owners across the country. This event was the culminating day/evening for a series of events (Startup Canada Awards) that presented awards to business owners across the country to celebrate their success in business. This woman inspires me so much, with her vision and clarity of her mission, and her genuine appreciation and support of business people. And she has just come through treatment for 3 types of cancer while doing all of this. Crazy. She is amazing.
The Dragons!
In Canada we have Dragon’s Den, which is like Shark Tank in the States. Bruce Croxon, Michelle Romanow and Nicole Verkindt were all at this event and did various talks and hosting duties (there were tons of sessions!). The Dragons inspire me simply because they are always supporting business people. They teach them the importance of money in business, no matter how big you want to be, and they actually invest in product businesses that need support, which is so cool. But more than that they are very smart business people themselves, and they share that wisdom when they speak. Bruce in particular was one of my favourite speakers on this day. He is brilliant.
I came away from these two events with lots of notes and a much needed boost to my business. Sometimes it just takes listening and learning from those who are ahead of you to push you to the next step.
