Whether you are just starting out as a Virtual Assistant, or you have been in business a while, you might be struggling to find great clients.
When you are new, it is hard enough to talk to people about your services and your rates.
One of the biggest barriers to getting great clients is very simple: talking to the wrong people.
We second-guess our value and we often have a hard time articulating our worth to people when they don’t really understand what a VA is.
If the people you talk to also have never heard of a VA (or have never worked with one), your conversations with them start at a much more ‘beginning’ point than they might with others.
What if you started talking to people who already understood what a VA is?
What if you networked with an industry who already uses VAs and ‘gets it’?
Where would your conversations be able to start then?
Not … How does it work? What is a VA? Or I can’t afford a VA.
But instead … What services do you provide? What systems do you use? And What is your rate?
There are all kinds of industries that are already using Virtual Assistants.
Talking to those people makes your networking infinitely easier because you don’t have to ‘educate’ them about our industry.
You simply need to ask them what they need help with, and decide whether you can help them.
You just need to ask them what their budget is, and determine whether you can work within it.
Clients want to know two things: what you can do for them, and how much it will cost them. So tell them. (this is my mantra!)
Here is a list of great industries that use VAs, and have for a long time:
- Real estate professionals
- Lawyers
- Non-profits and charities
- Trainers and Teachers
- Financial Professionals
- Medical Professionals
- Mortgage Brokers
- Accountants
- Coaches (all kinds – business, life, mindset, parenting, and so many others)
- Consultants
- Speakers and Authors
- Course Creators
- Professional Organizers
- Travel Consultants
- Influencers
- Podcasters
- Health and Wellness (nutritionists, consultants, etc.)
- Startup Businesses
- Small Business Owners /Solopreneurs
- Tradespeople
- Event Planners
- Entertainment Industry
- And many, many more
These industries have all been using VAs for a very long time. They ‘get it’ already.
There is no education needed as to why working with a VA is a good idea.
Of course, there are clients who have never used a VA, but often they have colleagues who have, so the learning curve is much shorter.
And, there are new client industries starting to work with VAs all the time.
Some newer ones include: Course Creators (online teachers) and Influencers are two that are much newer, but are still great industries who are using VAs.
So why would you want to start by talking to people who have office staff, and try so hard to convince them to replace those office staff by hiring you?
Do not get me wrong – I am not criticizing those of you who think you have to do this.
This is something I did myself for many years! That’s why I know it’s a complete waste of time.
Educate people along the way, of course. But don’t try to flip people into firing their in-house staff to hire you. It’s just exhausting, frankly.
Go where the clients are, and start connecting with them there.
Know inside and out the BEST services you can offer people, and talk about those.
Do this every day in several places and you WILL get great clients much faster.
And getting great clients is what will make you a successful VA!
