When it comes to valuing yourself in your business, it is easy to get your mindset trapped in the ‘time for money’ model. As a VA, we sometimes get so excited to let people know that they are only paying for the time you actually spend on task – and we forget the real value is … us.
It’s a common business model – when you are working you are getting paid, and when you are not working you are not getting paid.
But in terms of building a successful business, it doesn’t work.
You inevitably get maxed out (there are only so many hours in a week!) and you cannot make any more money.
To look at your fees in terms of your expertise is the way to go.
Look at what you are doing for your clients. What they don’t have to worry about. What you will handle for them.
It’s the same idea – you are still asking them to pay you to do their work, but it’s not about tracking time and tracking fees. It’s about completing the tasks they need each month and getting paid for them.
It can be a difficult transition for any VA – but the biggest transition is in your mindset.
Once you realize that it’s your value that they are paying for, you will be better able to convey that value to your clients and potential clients.
Once you realize that it’s your expertise they need, it will be easier to move your mindset to where it needs to be to effectively network with people who need you.
Think about what you do. Think about the problems you solve for your clients by doing those things. Think about how to talk about that in a simple conversation.
Now you are on your way!
